I’m a HUGE fan of Laurent Amzallag who runs Yala fitness in DC, and take his class weekly at the Sports Club LA. Laurent is full of energy and passion and transmits it through each one of this classes. Yala, meaning “Let’s Go”, is a dance based workout. It’s a fun, challenging, sexy, unique, motivating workout with music from around the world. He’s been featured on Oprah, Elle Magazine, NBC, CBS, and FOX and been named one of the 50 most influential people in the world by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

Outside: The Best Place to Work Out!
To me, running on a treadmill is boring. Staring at one point inside a crowded gym while I run seems to make it hard to motivate myself to keep going. Even if I am watching the best episode of Grey’s Anatomy that I’ve ever seen, it still wont make me stay on the treadmill. The treadmill and I just don’t really like each other.
This dislike makes staying fit a little bit harder. A lot of gyms are nice and big, but you are still inside, running on a treadmill. Something great the Wharf is offering are fitness classes outside. Every Saturday from 9am-10am they have a YaLa Fitness class. I had never done YaLa before now but I’m hooked!
It’s a mix of cardio and plyometrics, which are strength conditioning moves. So with this class, I can get the cardio that I need (but hate to get from a treadmill) and a workout that feels like I’m using weights. Laurent Amzallag, the class instructor, has great music to get everyone pumped and it really makes the workout fly by. You get to workout outside with a bunch of people who are having a great time just like you.
See you there!
