About Urban Farming
Urban Farming took root in 2005 with three gardens and since then has blossomed into an organization that plants and supports over 750 community-based farms across the country and abroad, feeding close to a half of a million people. Urban Farming’s mission is to create an abundance of food for people in need by planting gardens on unused land and space while increasing diversity, educating youth, adults and seniors and providing an environmentally sustainable system to uplift communities. Urban Farming helps feed people in need and empowers communities by gathering local volunteers to plant fruits and vegetables on unused land and space with the goal of ending hunger in our generation. Urban Farming has also educated people about healthy living and greening the environment. Recording artist Taja Sevelle founded the program, starting off with only three gardens. The organization also works to build and strengthen impoverished communities by providing educational and entrepreneurial opportunities to help motivate youth, adults and seniors to optimize the production of unused land for food.
